New Ocean Freight Service Announced Transport firms in the roro transport industry planning on providing transport services between Halifax and the US ports of Portland Maine and Boston in the future will be interested in the latest news concerning container ship service between these destinations. American Feeder Lines recently announced plans to launch weekly container ship service between these cities in the spring that will apparently follow the route of the former Yankee Clipper feeder service that transported containers for Hapag-Lloyd.
International auto shipping firms looking at this news and thinking they could use this service to help transport vehicles to destination on time and budget might want to slow down. American Feeder Lines has also indicated that they still have a few things to work out, before they can launch this new service, but expect to launch this new transport service in the second half of 2011, if everything goes as planned.
Apparently, American Feeder Lines still has to charter a container ship to provide the service, and this could take awhile, since according to sources in the international freight shipping industry American Feeder Lines has recently been looking around for financing for this idea. According to sources American Feeder Lines still needs about $750 million in financing to make this new transport service between Halifax and the American ports in question reality, so we might want to wait and see if they can find the money they need to do the job. American Feeder Lines has indicated that it has found some customers that are interested in this new transport service and would be looking for more interest in this offer during the weeks and months ahead.

APM Terminals recently announced plans to invest $1 billion in the construction of a new container terminal in Costa Rica, called the Moin Container Terminal, with the first phase scheduled to be completed around 2016, at a cost of around $543 million. The container yard will cover an area of just under 100 acres and include 1,968 feet of quay with two berths, after completion of the first phase of construction, according to APM Terminals, and will expand construction in accordance with provisions of the 33-year concession agreement the company signed to design, finance, construct and operate the Moin Container Terminal.
